Scientific Vapor designs and manufactures inhalation chamber systems for both long term and intermittent delivery of drugs via vapor. We continue to produce both a passive and a self-administration vapor systems that enable investigators to target and maintain consistent drug levels in animals.
With our new SVS250 vapor generator we can precisely mimic human e-cigarettes use which deliver nicotine, THC, psychostimulants, opiods and other drugs. Each puff of vapor has enough to fill a standard cage (please see the video linked here) and can be delivered at your timing intervals. Users can switch drugs by simply switching the tank attached to the top of each vaporizer.
Our system features a controller that allows the user to choose between different modes for their individual experiments. The first mode is a passive setting (timed event) where a user can choose a time set to deliver vapor drug at set intervals. This allows for consistent drug levels to be maintained in an animal. Our second mode is a self-administration where we incorporate response devices, such as a nose poke, lever press, or turning wheel to administer vapor drug. The user can set up the number of times each poke must be broken or pressed for the animal to receive the drug.
Our inhalation system provides a minimally stressful environment that enables mice or rats to eat, drink and sleep normally while vapors are delivered, which more closely mimics human drug use. There is no measure stress response by animals during exposure in our passive system.
The explosive growth of electronic cigarette use, especially among young adults, has left researchers scrambling to establish protocols that emulate human use. This gap in technology has led to a lack of empirical data needed for the safety and regulatory purposes. Scientific Vapor’s systems have filled this gap.
